Wildlife:
- Great Blue Heron glides in and flares its wings for a landing along the riprap at the base of the dam.
- A Red-shouldered Hawk perched on a low tree branch posed for portrait shots while periodically scanning the ground for potential prey. Suddenly it spied movement in the leaf litter, dove to the ground, and captured a small snake for a mid-afternoon meal.
The hawk then flew up into a nearby tree and provided the photographer with a few more photo ops.

The snake is likely a Dekay's Brownsnake. It is shy and harmless. For additional information see:
